{"id":1592,"date":"2026-10-31T00:06:38","date_gmt":"2026-10-31T00:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/?p=1592"},"modified":"2026-10-31T00:06:40","modified_gmt":"2026-10-31T00:06:40","slug":"deploy-the-avi-loadbalancer-license-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/?p=1592","title":{"rendered":"Deploy the AVI Loadbalancer License Hub"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With AVI Loadbalancer starting from 32.1.1 the 25-character license keys aren&#8217;t working anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you plan to deploy AVI you want to use it with a valid license and have 2 ways of licensing AVI Loadbalancer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cloud Licensing: Connect to an online service and consume your licenses from there<br><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.pulse.broadcom.com\">https:\/\/portal.pulse.broadcom.com<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-prem License Hub: Another &#8220;license server&#8221; that handles the registration and licensing &#8211; kinda like in VCF Operations and its license server for VCF Components<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cloud Licensing is easier to setup and will spare you another VM with some heavy requirements but gives you more control about what talks to broadcom home. So choose whatever fits your case!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">License Hub Requirements<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The License Hub is an OVA Appliance which comes from the Broadcom support Portal. As an Appliance it will need quite ressources which are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6 vCPUs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>12 GB memory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>256 GB of storage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And from the Network perspective we need the following IPs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1x Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pool of 2 IP addresses which belong together (192.168.0.21-192.168.0.22)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IP Pool must not be in the same subnet as the Managment IP, but they need to reach each other!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 FQDNs\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1x Managment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1x kafka wich gets attached to the second ip address of the above mentioned pool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>150ms latency between the license hub and its components (NSX Manager, SSP, AVI Controller)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/techdocs.broadcom.com\/us\/en\/vmware-security-load-balancing\/vdefend\/license-hub\/2-0\/license-hub-appliance\/license-hub-appliance-system-requirements.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/techdocs.broadcom.com\/us\/en\/vmware-security-load-balancing\/vdefend\/license-hub\/2-0\/license-hub-appliance\/license-hub-appliance-system-requirements.html\">License Hub for AVI 2.0 Documentation <\/a>which was updated on the 29th of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After creating A-Records and PTR Records we finally deploy the OVA which we downloaded from Broadcom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deploying the License Hub for AVI<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First: Go <a href=\"https:\/\/support.broadcom.com\/group\/ecx\/productfiles?subFamily=VMware%20Avi%20Load%20Balancer&amp;displayGroup=VMware%20Avi%20Load%20Balancer&amp;release=32.1.4&amp;os=&amp;servicePk=547320&amp;language=EN\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/support.broadcom.com\/group\/ecx\/productfiles?subFamily=VMware%20Avi%20Load%20Balancer&amp;displayGroup=VMware%20Avi%20Load%20Balancer&amp;release=32.1.4&amp;os=&amp;servicePk=547320&amp;language=EN\">here <\/a>and download the &#8220;License Hub for VMware vDefend and VMware Avi Load Balancers&#8221;  integrated in the VMSP Cluster you might ask?
