{"id":1682,"date":"2026-11-02T22:44:34","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T22:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/?p=1682"},"modified":"2026-11-02T23:58:42","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T23:58:42","slug":"add-esx-components-to-the-offline-depot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/?p=1682","title":{"rendered":"Add ESX-Components to the offline depot"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whenever my SDDC Manager wants to download ESX Binaries and that stuff it fails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On one side i&#8217;ve never patch the VCF vCenters with my download token (easy way) mentioned here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.broadcom.com\/external\/article\/389276\">https:\/\/knowledge.broadcom.com\/external\/article\/389276<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other side i&#8217;ve got an offline depot running which helps me not having to login into support.broadcom.com and download the same binaries for who knows how often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is a fix for that! Use the VCF Download Tool to provide those files! So lets start with preparing everything \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disabling unnecessary downloads\/versions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We start checking what is configured for esx components and which versions &#8220;are&#8221; supported:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>vcf-download-tool esx configuration --get\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"893\" height=\"446\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1685\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-17.png 893w, https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-17-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-17-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.lis.one\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/image-17-850x425.png 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 893px) 100vw, 893px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">now we disable some of those hosts. Don&#8217;t need 6.7 or 7.0 or 8.0 anymore in that setup. esxio is for DPUs and ARM ESX for ARM ESX-Hosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>vcf-download-tool esx configuration --disable-host esxio-9.1-INTL<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately you will have to enter all plattforms in a single command since it didn&#8217;t worked for me with class=\"wp-block-heading\">Downloading the component and metadata<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">now we are able to download the components and the metadata. simply issue the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>vcf-download-tool esx download --depot-download-activation-code-file \/root\/activation-code.txt have been downloaded and our offline-depot got a new folder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"545\" height=\"153\" needed to change my chown command since i ran everything as root<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>chown -R nginx:nginx \/var\/www\/build\/ &amp;&amp; chmod -R 750 \/var\/www\/build\/\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After that we head to VCF Operations and synchronize our ESXi Components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
